Relational Trauma Therapy

Living in an oppressive world after a trauma can be overwhelming.

Triggers in the form of microaggressions to blatant discrimination are prevalent in both work and home life – chipping away at our well-being.

As our awareness of these intersections between trauma and oppression increase, we may feel up in arms, ready to start a revolution!

However, we need to take exquisite care of ourselves first or else we risk feeling overwhelmed, drained and hopeless.

You deserve a life free from trauma.

Nightmares, unbearable emotions, panic attacks, inability to concentrate, feeling spacey or prickly all the time.

Post-traumatic stress symptoms are just one layer of trauma.

After a trauma we may wonder – can we ever feel like ourselves and still feel safe?

Can we trust others – or even ourselves – again?

REAL TALK: Yes. We absolutely can. I can show you how.

The Pillars of Our Work Together

We hurt and we heal in relationships.

Our relationships to ourselves – heart, body, mind, spirit. Our loved ones – partners, friends, family, chosen and inherited. The collective – society at large, communities with shared identities and experiences. And of course, the earth itself.

Whether working with individuals or couples, we apply principles of attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology to understanding all of these kinds of relationships and to facilitate a positive change.

We are mindful of systems of power.

The way that power is held. What kind of power is at play. Who is privileged in a particular culture and who is oppressed. We collaborate with clients to unearth their own experience of power and the way that is being held in their being.

Bringing these experiences into the light and putting them back into their original context is to disentangle ourselves from trauma and reclaim a healthy relationship to power.

We take an integrative approach.

There is no one right way to heal and ultimately we need a team approach.

Within psychotherapy, we integrate values of liberation, intersectional feminist principles, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, body-oriented approaches with trauma therapy to address the intersectional impact that our lived experiences has on our well being.

Therapy is a relational experience and thus, we make use of the relationship to cultivate a reparative experience. That’s ultimately what it’s all about.

“I feel like I have gained more insight and can more capably pursue a path to solve my problems. I’m grateful to have found a therapist who was such an attentive listener and was eager to invest attention in practical problem solving.”
